The teachers say it best

These quotes come directly from teachers applying for REAP’s training program. So far REAP has trained more than 1,500 teachers and hundreds more are waiting to be trained. They desperately want the tools to break through to struggling readers.

“This is my 13th year working with students who do not learn to read in the traditional manner provided by public schools. I have seen the incredible results the Orton-Gillingham approach can provide for students, and I want to learn more deeply how to construct this approach for my students.”

“Orton-Gillingham is in a class of its own when it comes to research-based, results-proven multi-sensory reading instruction. I have long wanted to attend this training.”

“By the time students reach third grade they should be reading to learn. Students that are still learning to read begin to fall behind due to the complexity of the reading portion of textbooks and tests. They’ve had the traditional program and it hasn’t worked for them. I don’t want to see another student embarrassed to read or someone say I hate reading. I know these are the students who have always struggled to read.”

“I teach at a Title 1 school where most of my students are reading below grade level. I am always looking and researching better ways to improve my students’ reading ability. One of my co-workers informed me of a family member’s child that was tutored at the Orton-Gillingham institute. The child was nine years old and was reading on a kindergarten reading level. By the end of the summer, he was reading on grade level (fourth). When I heard about this, I knew I wanted to be equipped with this reading approach to help my students.”

“I work at an economically disadvantaged school with a high population of ESOL students. I have experienced in my class a high number of third-grade students who are reading on a beginning kindergarten to first-grade reading level. The opportunity to provide my students high-quality reading strategies will impact their lives in a positive manner. “

“I would like to further and deepen my knowledge of the English language in relation to teaching children how to read, decode, spell, and write words, in addition to building fluency and comprehension of text. I have seen how fellow teachers trained in Orton-Gillingham have helped struggling and non-struggling students in the areas of spelling and phonics and am impressed. I would like the same training to help the children that are in my care each year.”

“I would love to learn about this approach to teaching reading/phonics. As a 1st grade teacher, the foundation a student has is critical for their future education. I want to be equipped with all the skills I can so that my students are able to learn and grow to their maximum potential.”
