Your REAP Story

Teachers, REAP needs your help.

REAP is a nonprofit organization. We rely on donations and grants. We need your help to show potential donors that REAP training is a great investment.

How can you help?

Tell us your REAP story so we can show our supporters what a difference REAP Structured Literacy training has made for you and your students.

We’ll feature your stories in our social media and email newsletters, and on the REAP website.

What are we looking for? Please send us:

  1. A photo of yourself (without student faces or names, please)
  2. Your name and grade (and school if that’s okay)
  3. A short written description of how REAP Structured Literacy training has benefited you and your students (about 100 words or less).

3. Facebook: Post on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Readingisessentialforallpeople/. Near the top of the page you should see Write a Post.

*In the Facebook app, click the white curvy arrow at the top right of the screen, then click Write a Post.

Here are some story examples:

Example 1: a real story about all the students (91 words)

I’m a reader. I love reading. And I’m a teacher and I love teaching. One of the missing things for me has been the ability to be able to reach kids who struggle with reading and to turn them into readers—to turn them on to the love of reading. REAP has provided me with the tools necessary to help these readers become successful. And for the first time I see them excited about reading—they stand taller, they smile more, and they raise their hands more and it’s truly unbelievable.

Example 2: a real story about a special student (with fake names) (57 words)

I’d like to tell you what a difference REAP Structured Literacy training has made with one of my students. We’ll call her Kayla. Kayla started first grade knowing 13 words. By September, she was up to 67 words. By November, she could consistently read 134 words.  She’s come up four reading levels and she’s a confident reader.

Example 3: a story about a teacher (102 words)

I’ve been teaching 1st grade for 11 years. Every year I have 3 or 4 students who have a very hard time learning to read. I always wished I could do more to help them, but I just couldn’t break through. I worried what would happen to them, especially the kids who are still learning English and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Well, last year I got training in Structured Literacy from REAP. Eureka! I finally knew how to teach those struggling readers. My students became more confident as their reading skills became stronger and stronger. Now they even read for fun!
